Why PearMedica Exists
A problem too important to ignore.
African healthcare is under-resourced
Nigeria has roughly 4 doctors per 10,000 people (WHO Global Health Workforce Statistics) — one of the lowest ratios in the world. Patients face inconsistent triage, long wait times, and overworked clinicians spending much of their day on routine initial assessments that could be streamlined.
Meanwhile, the diseases that affect Africans most — malaria, typhoid, Lassa fever, sickle cell disease — are underrepresented in global AI health tools trained primarily on Western clinical data.
AI built by Africans, for Africa
PearMedica ships the same medical intelligence two ways. PearCare is a full multi-tenant hospital EHR — outpatient and inpatient records, pharmacy, billing, and a patient portal — and PearMDx is the developer API that lets hospitals, HMOs, and telemedicine providers embed intelligent symptom assessment and triage into their own applications.
Both run on a production-grade RAG system grounded in African clinical guidelines, with a rules-based safety layer designed to surface life-threatening red flags on emergency conditions. Every assessment is explainable, auditable, and clinically grounded.

What We’re Building
One clinical engine, two ways to deploy it — the PearCare hospital EHR and the PearMDx developer API.
PearCare — Hospital EHR
A full multi-tenant hospital platform: outpatient records, inpatient wards and medication administration, pharmacy and dispensing, revenue-cycle and HMO claims, and a patient portal — with a branded triage kiosk on the front door.
PearMDx — Clinical-Intelligence API
A RESTful symptom-assessment and triage API with robust NLP for symptom extraction, multi-tenant architecture, and HL7 FHIR R4 endpoints so partners can build on top of the same engine that powers PearCare.
African Disease Intelligence
A knowledge base curated for diseases that matter most across Africa — malaria, typhoid, Lassa fever, sickle cell — built on a production RAG system with hybrid search, HyDE, Parent Document Retrieval, and a 6-layer clinical validation pipeline.
Compliance-First Architecture
Built to the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, with AES-256 encryption at rest and in transit, append-only audit logging, and a roadmap toward phased data localisation.
